Global declining competition?

Using a new firm-level dataset on private and listed firms from advanced economies emerging markets, we document four stylized facts market power in global markets. First, competition has declined, but only modestly—average markups increased 1.22 to 1.29 (6%) during 2000–2015, especially services economies. Second, the of are higher experienced stronger increases than those firms. Third, markup increase is driven by top decile distribution (which includes both large small firms), there U-shaped relation between firm size markups. Finally, mostly within incumbents and, lesser extent, share reallocation towards high-markup entrants.
